Is respect something people expect, or is the level you deserve defined by your worth? What determines your worth? Social media has fueled this unrealistic idea that the level of respect you deserve is based on what you own and not who you are. Society has instilled that important things have numeric value attached to formulate who is worthy and who is not. We hold onto these “important things” like it is a life line to our social status and our savior to gaining respect. If one does not possess material evidence to their value then they are as worthless as flies on trash. The true value of someone’s worth should be measured by their character, integrity, compassion, love and respect given to oneself and to others around them. When will society learn that nobody is getting out of here alive, and in the end, we will be judged by who we were and not by what we owned.
